Is there a significant difference between an Intel Pentium D and Core Duo?

I have the opportunity to buy a computer with a Pentium D 3.0 or I can pay more $ 100 more for a Core Duo installed. Is there a significant difference between the two models if I intend to play games like Titan Quest and Hellgate London?
